One of the first things I’ve acquired for my Viking age scandinavian costume, was a pair of oval brooches, type R.651 (Rygh 1885) / P 49 (Petersen 1928), bought from Kram Szepczące Kruki: http://szepczacekruki.pl/wczesne/ozdoby
Where were they found?
Here they are in Rygh, page 174:

In the description of 651 it says “Lieu de trouvaille inconu”.
And accordingly, in Petersen, depicted on page 55. I don’t speak Norwegian (yet), but from what I understood, Petersen didn’t know either where these two brooches were found.
“Muligens hører dog ogsaa til Østlandet C.4627 fra Ukjendt sted i Norge. De fleste av oldsakene paa Universitetets Oldsaksamling er jo fundet i den østlige del av Norge. I forbindelse med fundene fra Vestlandet staar rimeligvis fundene fra Island. Antallet av fund er her saa litet at det ikke er raadelig at dra nogen videre slutninger av fundenes fordeling.” (Petersen 1928, p. 56)
“Vi har her i Norge en liten variation i typen i de to fund C.4727 (avb. fig. 49) og B. 416, hvor underplaten i den ene ende ender i et dyrehode og eksemplarene forøvrig er et bedre arbeide.” (Petersen 1928, p. 57)
Why he put them under C.4627 in one place (p.56), and C.4727 in another (p.57), I do not know, they are under “C4727” in Unimus.no.
The “R.651” is mentioned in the book Medieval Clothing and Textiles 11, on page 23: “Like the burials at Trå and Hyrt, the grave [at Veka] was richly furnished with grave goods, including dress accessories: two oval brooches of gilded copper alloy (R651), rather similar to the ones at Trå, with bosses furnished with silver filigree as well as loose semicircular bosses covered with silver and filled with lead.” I don’t have access to full version of this article and I don’t know if there’s a picture of them included.
These “bosses” are somewhat a mystery here, as type R651 doesn’t seem to have any. The brooches found at Trå are, according to Ingvild Øye, of type R652 and this type indeed has bosses.
According to Unimus.no, the brooch found in Veka is rather of type R652.
There are two R651 P49 brooches in the Oslo Museum, and on display the pair is matched with a trefoil Borre style brooch type R673. Description of the two complete brooches type P49 in Fotoportalen (Unimus.no) says basically, that their place of origin is unknown (“Norge, Ukjent fylke, UKJENT KOMMUNE, Ukjent gård, 0”).
Another example of P 49 (=R651) type brooch was found in Hälsingland, Sweden:

It was found with two items from Vendel period, a brooch and an oval clasp.

In Ovale spenner i Nord-Norge og Trøndelag – stil og symbolisme i sosial sammenheng, published in 2001, Marianne Eldorhagen mentiones several R651 brooches, 4 found in graves and 1 stray find. She characterises them as typical for western Norway in the 900s, but under this number from Rygh she classifies 4 types of brooches from Petersen: 47, 48, 49 and 50 (Eldorhagen p.26).

One grave, located in the north-east part of Norway, in Ekkerøy, directed north-south, contained one male and one female skeleton, with burial gifts attributed mostly to the woman, consisting of two oval brooches type R651, one trefoil and one oval brooch and a ring (Eldorhagen 41-42). The oval brooches in Ekkerøy are, according to http://www.unimus.no/photos/khm/422287/?f=html, type P48, although Eldorhagen classified them as P49 in Appendix A.

Skąd wziął się wzór tych brosz?
W dziewiętnastowiecznym inwentarzu znalezisk autorstwa O. Rygha znajdują się na stronie 174:

W opisie pozycji 651 zapisano: “Lieu de trouvaille inconu” (miejsce odnalezienia nieznane).
Następnie brosze te zostały wymienione w znanej książce Jana Petersena z 1928 r. na stronie 55. Nie znam norweskiego, ale na ile Google Translate pozwolił mi zrozumieć, Petersen również nie znał miejsca odnalezienia tych brosz, sugerując zachodnią Norwegię.

Czemu raz umieścił je pod numerem C.4627 (s.56), a raz pod C.4727 (s.57), nie wiem, ale w portalu Unimus.no figurują pod numerem “C4727”.

Te “guzy” są tutaj zagadkowe, ponieważ typ R651 nie był nimi zdobiony. Brosze znalezione w Trå są, według Ingvild Øye, typu R652, a ten typ istotnie posiada ozdoby w postaci “guzów”.
Według Unimus.no brosza znaleziona w Veka należy do typu R652.
W muzeum w Oslo znajdują się dwie brosze R651 P49, na wystawie połączono je z trójlistną broszą w stylu Borre typu R673. Opis dwóch kompletnych brosz typu P49 w Fotoportalen (Unimus.no) zawiera informację, ze miejsce ich odnalezienia jest nieznane (“Norge, Ukjent fylke, UKJENT KOMMUNE, Ukjent gård, 0” ukjent = nieznane).

W tym samym pochówku prawdopodobnie znajdowały się dwa przedmioty z epoki Wendel, brosza i okrągła klamra (patrz Historiska.se). Prawdopodobnie, ponieważ z tego, co zrozumiałam z opisu znaleziska, te przedmioty były nieco rozrzucone po polu z uprawą (ziemniaków?).

Opisuje je jako typowe dla Norwegii zachodniej w X wieku, ponieważ większość z nich znaleziono na tym terenie. Należy jednak zwrócić uwagę, że pod tym numerem w klasyfikacji Rygha autorka zawarła cztery typy brosz według klasyfikacji Petersena: 47, 48, 49 i 50 (Eldorhagen p.26).

Jeden z pochówków, odkryty w północno-wschodniej Norwegii w Ekkerøy, o orientacji północno-wschodniej, zawierał jeden męski i jeden kobiecy szkielet. Większość znalezisk przypisano do darów grobowych kobiety. Obejmowały dwie owalne brosze typu R651, jedną trójlistną i jedną okrągłą broszę i pierścień (Eldorhagen 41-42). Brosze owalne z Ekkerøy należą, zgodnie z http://www.unimus.no/photos/khm/422287/?f=html, do typu P48, chociaż Eldorhagen sklasyfikowała je jako P49 w Załączniku A.
